Digital Maturity Index

A single, consistent framework for measuring how mature a sports organization's digital operation is. It's applied the same way across every team and tournament we track, so results are always comparable on equal footing.

Maturity Tiers

Every team is scored out of 100 across three equally weighted pillars, then classified into a maturity tier.

The Three Pillars

Each pillar contributes exactly one third of the total score.

Digital Presence

How broadly and effectively an organization communicates with its fanbase across social platforms and its official web presence.

Why it matters: Reach is the foundation of digital value. An organization can't monetize or engage an audience it hasn't built.

Fan Data Collection

Whether an organization owns a direct relationship with its fans, through first-party data, ticketing, and personalised communication, rather than renting reach from third-party platforms.

Why it matters: The commercially critical pillar: data ownership is what turns an audience into a sustainable, activatable asset.

Mobile App

Whether an organization has invested in a meaningful mobile product that goes beyond a news feed to deliver interactive, transactional fan experiences.

Why it matters: Apps are the highest-intent digital touchpoint, where the most engaged fans convert into recurring engagement and revenue.

Tier Classification

Teams are assigned to one of four tiers based on their total Digital Maturity Score.

Elite

70–100

Full fan data stack, multi-platform scale, advanced app. Commercial-grade digital operation.

Advanced

50–69

Strong digital presence with developing data capabilities. One or two pillars underperforming.

Developing

30–49

Solid social foundations but significant gaps in data ownership or app product.

Emerging

0–29

Early-stage digital investment. Limited social footprint, no loyalty infrastructure, no dedicated app.
